Our Blessed Lady's Saturday

My Queen! My Mother! I give thee all myself, and, to show my devotion to thee, I consecrate to thee my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my entire self. Wherefore, O loving Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, defend me, as thy property and possession. Amen.

Saint Clare

Saint Clare's feast in the traditional ordo is August 12th. This spiritual daughter of Saint Francis shares a birthday with me, July 16th (just about 800 years apart). She founded and led the Poor Clares for 40 years.

She is frequently depicted carrying a monstrance.

O wondrous blessed clarity of Clare!
In life she shone to a few;
after death she shines on the whole world!
On earth she was a clear light;
Now in heaven she is a brilliant sun.

O how great the vehemence of the
brilliance of this clarity!
On earth this light was indeed kept
within cloistered walls,
yet shed abroad its shining rays;
It was confined within a convent cell,
yet spread itself through the wide world.

Pope Innocent IV

Friday At the Foot Of the Cross

There is no King but Him whom I have seen. I adore and worship Him, and for His sake, even though I be slain a thousand times, I will always be His. Torments are not able to take Christ from my mouth, nor from my heart. Bitterly do I regret that I detested His Holy Name in holy men, and came so late, like a haughty soldier, to adoring the true King. Amen.

Saint Jean Marie Vianney

Today is the feast of Saint Jean Marie Vianney, the Cure of Ars, and the saint I have read the second most about (the first being Saint Padre Pio). He is the patron of priests.

O heavenly Father, Shepherd of Thy people, we give Thee thanks for Thy servant Jean, who was faithful in the care and nurture of Thy flock; and we pray that, following his example and the teaching of his holy life, we may by Thy grace grow into the stature of the fullness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Catholic Encyclopedia on the Cure of Ars.

Excerpts from his sermons.

TAN's selections on the Cure.

Father Rutler has a book out about him.

Twenty-one years ago, Pope John Paul II wrote on St. Jean Vianney to all priests in his Maundy Thursday letter.

Ask his intercession for a good priest you know.

His feast in the ordinary mode of the Latin Rite was August 4th.
