Our Blessed Lady's Saturday

Song To Our Lady

Of one that is so fair and bright
Brighter than the day is light,
I cry to thee to turn to me;
Lady, pray thy Son for me,
That I may come to thee.

In sorrow, counsel thou art best,
For all the weary thou art rest,
Beseech Him in thy mildest mood,
Who for us did shed His Blood.

All this world was forlorn,
Till Our Saviour Lord was born
With thy Ave sin went away,
Dark night went and in came day.
The well of healing sprang from thee.

Lady, Bower of everything,
Thou bore Jesus, Heaven's King,
Of all I say thou bore the prize,
Lady, Queen of Paradise
Maiden mild, Mother.

Well He knows He is thy Son,
He will not refuse thy bone,
So courteous and so good He is,
He hath brought us to our bliss
Who hast shut up the dark foul pit.

Friday At the Foot Of the Cross

Remember, O Beloved Jesus,
Who for the love of me didst agonize on the Cross,
and from that throne of truth didst announce the
completion of the work of our Redemption, through which,
from being the children of wrath and perdition,
we are become the children of God and the heirs of Heaven:

Have mercy on all the faithful in their agony,
and on me also when I shall be in that extremity,
and, through the merits of Thy Precious Blood,
detach us entirely from the world and from ourselves,
and at the moment of our agony give us grace
sincerely to offer Thee the sacrifice of our life
in expiation for our sins.

An Anniversary

Nineteen years ago today, my father died at the age of 69 of a sudden, massive heart attack while chipping away at ice on the porch of an elderly neighbor. He and my mother had just returned from the 9:30 Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption, December 31st being a Sunday that year.

V. Requiem aeternam, dona ei Domine.
R. Et lux perpetua luceat in ei.
V. Requiescat in pace.
R. Amen.

Deus, qui nos patrem et matrem honorare praecepisti: miserere clementer animabus patris et matris meae eorumque peccata dimitte: meque eos in aeternae claritatis gaudio fac videre. Per Christum Dominum nostrum.

Slaughter Of the Holy Innocents

The Coventry Carol

1. Lullay, Thou little tiny Child,
By, by, lully, lullay.
Lullay, Thou little tiny Child.
By, by, lully, lullay.

2. O sisters, too, how may we do,
For to preserve this day;
This poor Youngling for whom we sing,
By, by, lully, lullay.

3. Herod the King, in his raging,
Charged he hath this day;
His men of might, in his own sight,
All children young, to slay.

4. Then woe is me, poor Child, for Thee,
And ever mourn and say;
For Thy parting, nor say nor sing,
By, by, lully, lullay.

In Herod's time, a slaughter of holy innocent babes was an outstanding once-in-a-lifetime event. For us, the murderous sin of abortion has made the slaughter of holy innocents a daily, constant massacre. God help us!
